Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk to take place Sept. 28

The Brain Aneurysm Center at North Shore University and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will host the fifth annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Jones Beach State Park.

Starting at 10 a.m., participants will walk two miles or run four. Hundreds of people are expected to participate in the rain or shine event, including brain aneurysm survivors and their families.

There will also be music, entertainment and giveaways at the event. There will be pet therapy dogs to play with, face painting and portraits by a  caricature artist.

Participants can register on-site the day of the event starting at 8:30 a.m. at Field 5, Jones Beach. The registration donation fee is $25 and includes the cost of parking and snacks.

All proceeds raised from the walk will go to the Brain Aneurysm Center and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation to support research that may help reduce the incidence of ruptured aneurysms. To preregister for the walk, visit http://bafound.donorpages.com/LI2013 or call 516-562-3815.

Brain aneurysm is a cerebrovascular disorder that causes bulging and weakness in the wall of an artery or vein that supplies blood to the brain and can sometimes cause stroke, brain damage or even death.
